Dies Quinta

Salvete, omnes!  Today, the Academy took a field trip to both the Virginia State Capitol and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.  At the capitol, we sat in delegate chairs, took a tour of the building, learned about its classical connections, and recited Catullus 85 around the state seal (as all Latin students would, of course!).  We then ate lunch at the museum and continued on a tour of the museum. During the tour, we learned about Greco-Roman art and went on a scavenger art with our families.  Praemia Fabulosa will awarded to the winners of the hunt!  Then we returned to campus and started our film series.  We watched the famous tragedy, Iphigenia, a film created in 1977.  Magistra Wilkins led a discussion of the film afterwards.  Students specifically focused on facial expressions, the effects of motion vs. stillness, and analyzing the film as text.  We concluded the adventurous day with Epistulae!  Please keep sending us all letters!
