Dies Quarta

Salvete, omnes!   Today, students took three Latin classes.  In one of the classes, Latina Pro Vicis, we learned the names of colors in Latin and Magister Perry took his classes on a tour around the hallways to teach students the Latin words for objects in the school environment. Then, in Si Se Non Noverit,  each student recited Catullus 51 (in Sapphic Stanza).  For our next class, each student will learn and recite part of Orpheus and Eurydice.  In Artes Romae,  Magistra Carroll taught students about Roman Republican art.   Then, we all enjoyed lunch while speaking in Latin!  The day continued with Quaestio, which allowed the students time to ask professors questions.  Play tryouts wrapped up the day; the cast will be announced tomorrow!  The busy day continued with a lecture by Dr. Fred Franko. Dr. Franko discussed "The Knowledge of Self in Plautus' Menaechmi and Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors.  Specifically, Dr. Franko analyzed the parallels in the style of writing and use of language between the two plays.  All the students then gathered in Andrews Hall for Tempus Scribendi, an activity in which all the students wrote journal entries in Latin.  Then, we were all in for a surprise.  Dr. McCaffrey read the classic story of "The Three Little Pigs" to all the students in Latin, while our fantastic RA's, Tory and Julie, comically acted out the story with puppets.  Lastly, we concluded the day with Epistulae.  Keep reading to know more about our exciting days!
